Detox baths are a simple way to help support the body’s natural functions. Not only does a detox bath help to draw out toxins but it can also reduce inflammation, soothe muscle pain and support recovery. We try to do a detox bath once a week but especially after swimming in a chlorinated pool or during times of acute illness.
The main ingredient in a detox bath is epsom salt which contains magnesium sulfate. When choosing a brand of epsom salt be sure to pick one that is unscented and doesn’t contain any extra ingredients. We typically use Dr. Teal’s.
HOW TO DO A DETOX BATH
- Add 1-2 cups epsom salt to the bath water. Optional: Add 1/2 cup baking soda to help neutralize the chemicals in the water
- Add 2-3 drops of geranium essential oil to aid in lymphatic drainage and detox. Lavender is another good oil to support the body’s natural detox processes.
- Make sure you hydrate well afterwards (especially children) to both assist in the removal of toxins from the body and rehydrate. Drink at least 1 full 8oz glass of water afterwards.
